In July 2025, Seychelles entered the international freediving stage for the very first time. Representing the island nation was Sophie, founder of Freediving Seychelles, who set not one but three national records during the AIDA competition in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
For Sophie, freediving has always been more than a sport. As an instructor and passionate advocate for the ocean, she has introduced countless students to the discipline in Seychelles, always with the vision that one day the country would have its place on the freediving map. That vision became a reality this year.

Three National Records in Three Days
The competition unfolded across three days, each one marking a new milestone for Seychelles:
Day 1: Sophie secured Seychelles’ very first official freediving record with a dive to 54m in Free Immersion (FIM).
Day 2: She pushed deeper, achieving 59m Constant Weight with Bifins (CWTB), further raising the national record.
Day 3: On the final day, she reached 63m CWTB, breaking her own record once more and achieving a personal best in the process.
Each dive represented not just personal achievement, but also a moment of history for Seychelles.
A Milestone for Seychelles
This accomplishment marks an important milestone for the island nation. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful waters in the world, Seychelles now has its first official records in freediving — a sport that is rapidly growing worldwide and combines athleticism, mindfulness, and a deep respect for the ocean.
Sophie hopes these records will inspire more Seychellois to take up freediving, whether for personal growth, ocean exploration, or future competition.
Gratitude and Support
Such a journey was only possible thanks to the support of coaches, safety teams, family, friends, and the sponsors who believed in Sophie’s mission from the beginning. To those sponsors, she extends her deepest gratitude: “Your support helped turn this dream into reality. These records are not just mine — they belong to Seychelles.”
With these three dives, Seychelles has claimed its place in the global freediving community. And for Sophie, this is only the beginning.
